TFIOS Review

My boyfriend doesn't read often. So when he comes to me with a book to read I can't say no. This was the case with The Fault in Our Stars.  We were still living in Pennsylvania and he went on a trip back to Florida to visit his family. When I retrieved him from the airport when he returned he looked at me and said "You need to read this book." I am familiar with John Green from his Youtube show with his brother Hank Green, vlogbrothers. (If you have not seen any of their videos you are seriously missing out. They cover everything from silly to educational.) However, I was not that familiar with his written work, since he tends to write Young Adult books, which is what TFIOS is. Chris downloaded an audio copy of the book and we just perched ourselves on the floor in the living room for hours until we finished the book. We laughed and we cried and we marveled over what we just heard. Even though the genre is young adult we the book to be easily related to because it was about living. Not cancer, or teenage love problems. It was about living.

On June 6, 2014 we found ourselves in the theater for a 7 pm showing of TFIOS. The theater mostly consisted of teenage girls, who in all honesty, probably never read the book and probably didn't know who John Green is. We had high hopes for the movie and we were not disappointed. About a month ago, when this movie was being promoted everywhere, I said to Chris "This may make me sound like a hipster, but I'm a little sad that this book that was our thing is now everywhere. I'm happy because it will make such a great movie and the story should be told but this was our thing." A few days later  John Green said the something along the same lines to his brother in their vlog. Right after the red carpet premier, he went on to say that he was very pleased with the movie and he believes it did the book justice. We agree. There are only a couple of scenes we wish they had kept in the movie, including John Green's cameo which had been cut from the movie. Other than that they were able to tell the story without straying away from the book . I would recommend the book and the movie to everyone. They are both wonderful and I do not think you will be disappointed. Just make sure you have tissues on hand!
